Troubled Tuesday

Tuesday, November 11, 2008

I just feel a little off today... I don't know if it's stress, anxiety, fatigue or if I'm getting sick... hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Kris and I enjoyed our day off yesterday. We ran some errands (like sending my ring off to get appraised.. I feel naked!) and then made a delicious Italian dinner. I made Baked Mostaccioli with Chicken Sausage. SOOOOOOOOOO good.

This morning I found it very hard to get out of bed. Kris practically had to drag me. I was (of course) running late and made a very simple, boring breakfast of microwaved egg beaters with turkey and cheese.

Lunch was the highlight meal of the day so far. A delicious salad with turkey, tomatoes, artichokes, broccoli, crackers and parmesan cheese. I also had an apple.

My kids were not very good today. After nap they were very rowdy and I could not WAIT to get out of there. I was pretty hungry when I got home so I ate a new flavor of Larabar that I hadn't tried yet: Cashew Cookie.

It was pretty good! My favorite is still apple pie though. So far, my ranking:

1. Apple Pie
2. Banana Cookie
3. Cashew Cookie
4. Pecan Pie
5. Cherry Pie

I still have a Key Lime Pie in my cupboard to try. Anybody had that one yet?

I'm making burgers for supper, stay tuned!

New grocery store organic section!

Friday, October 24, 2008

I was so exicted today when I stopped by the grocery store here in St. Peter. They've added a new organic/health foods section! Kris and I don't normally grocery shop here in town, as the prices tend to be a little high since there is really only one grocery store. But they stock some products that I haven't been able to find other places, so I definitely will be shopping there more often! Here's what I bought:

Alexia oven fries (red potato and sweet potato), Kemps fat free blueberry cream frozen yogurt, a big container of 0% Fage, FIVE new kinds of Larabars that I haven't tried, Musselman's apple butter, Campell's Select Harvest light soups, sugar free cool whip (frozen, it's better than ice cream, I swear), Chocolate Brownie Z-bars and... my favorite find... Walden Farms calorie-free dressings!! I've been looking for them for soooooooo loooooooooong! I bought Creamy Bacon and Italian Sundried Tomato.

I was so excited to have found those dressings, as soon as I got home I opened them up to sneak a little taste. DELICIOUS. I wish I had bought them before I'd eaten lunch today, so I could have used them on the salad that I made.

It was a pretty simple salad: spinach, romaine lettuce, sliced pepper turkey deli meat, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta and parmesan cheese. Dressing was Kraft Fat Free Honey Dijon. I also topped the salad with some crushed Kashi crackers.

I also had half of a Kashi dark chocolate chip cookie. (I'd already taken a bite before I took this picture, it was much bigger than this!)

When I got done grocery shopping, I decided to do my workout. I ran outside for 3 miles, then lifted arms and did some legwork and abs when I got home. It was a very good workout. Afterward, I ate half of a Cherry Pie Larabar.

I was excited to try this flavor, as many of you fellow bloggers seem to really like it. And, I LOVE cherry pie (note: cherry pie oats). However, I wasn't too impressed with this one. The cherry flavor was very.... tart. Not like the apple pie bar, which tasted sweet even though it's unsweetened. It wasn't bad, but it's not my favorite!
So far, my Larabar flavor rankings are as follows:
  1. Apple Pie
  2. Banana Cookie
  3. Cherry Pie
I have so many more to try, I can't wait!!

Well, I think Kris and I are going to have a date night. I'm going to pour myself a glass of wine to officially welcome the weekend!

LARABAR SIGHTING!!!

Monday, October 20, 2008

Finally! I found them! Today after running a few errands (tanning, getting my nails done, Halloween costume-shopping... haha, real important errands) I decided to make a trip to the downtown Cub Foods. I haven't shopped there in a while, since I used to live near there, but I remembered that they had a pretty decent organic/health foods section.

Little did I know that they place had improved immensely since I'd last been there! It might be my new favorite grocery store! I found several things that I've wanted to try but haven't been able to locate. INCLUDING, LARABARS! I bought cherry pie, apple pie and banana cookie.

On my drive back home, I tried an apple pie one, and had a Cherry Coke Zero.

I can now see why everyone is so crazy for these things! It honestly tasted like apple pie. It had big chunks of apples in it. I also liked that it wasn't crumbly like a granola bar... it was denser, but not so dense that it hurt my jaw to chew, like Clif bars sometimes do. I can't wait to try another flavor!

When I arrived home, I unpacked my groceries. Here's everything I got: spinach, apples, grapes, pears, romaine lettuce, baby carrots, broccoli & cauliflower, wild berry crisp cereal, baked yellow tortilla chips, Kashi roasted vegetable crackers, unsweetened Almond Breeze, Eggplant parmesan bites, Deep Chocolate Vitatops (another awesome find!), garlic & herb sprea, Sabra Roasted Red Pepper hummus (YESSS! Couldn't find it anywhere!), reduced fat feta cheese, Sargento mozzarella slices and Chipotle Cheddar Slices, and 2 % milk shredded Italian cheese.

LUNCH
I was starving by the time I unpacked everything. I made a chicken, apple and chipotle cheddar melt. Perfection! On the side I had the rest of the apple I used in the sandwich, which I sliced up, topped with a bit of Naturally More Peanut Butter, sugar free maple syrup and a little bit of Pumpkin Flax cereal.

Yum, yum!

I must say, now that I've found the perfect Halloween costume, I CANNOT WAIT for Halloween. I want to tell you all what it is, but I think I'll try to keep it a secret until the big night. It's pretty groovy though!!

Time to get ready for supper. I think I'll make spaghetti squash.
